A Defense Built Around the Facts of Your Drug Case
Drug cases can turn on the legality of a traffic stop, the scope of a search warrant, or how investigators connected a controlled substance to a particular person. Our firm, Law Office of Joseph A. Fanduzz, provides vigorous legal representation focused on the facts behind each allegation.
We handle drug charges in Corryton ranging from simple possession allegations to cases involving sales, manufacturing, or distribution. We tailor each defense strategy to the circumstances, not simply the name of the charged offense.

Drug Charge Investigations Involving Corryton Residents
We regularly handle cases arising from investigations by local police, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and state or federal agencies. The investigating authority can affect the evidence involved, where the case proceeds, and which procedural issues require attention.
Traffic Stops & Searches
We scrutinize traffic stops, search warrants, and constitutional issues in drug cases. Our review includes the stated basis for a stop and whether officers acted within the authority granted by a warrant. A constitutional violation can affect whether evidence is admissible, depending on the facts and the court’s findings.
Search issues aren’t limited to homes. Allegations may follow an encounter involving a vehicle or other property, making the location, sequence of events, and asserted legal justification important. We examine those circumstances rather than assuming an arrest report presents the complete account.
Criminal Defense Experience & Trial Training
Attorney Joseph Fanduzz brings 17 years of legal experience to criminal defense matters. He has been a member of the National Criminal Defense College since 2012. His ongoing trial advocacy training informs the preparation of contested drug cases.

Tennessee Drug Charge Classifications
Tennessee Code Annotated Section 39-17-417 governs allegations involving possession with intent to sell or deliver. Possession with intent means the prosecution alleges that a person possessed a controlled substance for a planned sale or transfer. The classification depends in part on the substance’s schedule and the alleged quantity.
Tennessee organizes controlled substances into seven schedules, numbered I through VII, with marijuana classified in Schedule VI. Amounts of 0.5 grams or more of certain Schedule II substances, including cocaine, methamphetamine, or fentanyl, trigger a more severe felony classification under Section 39-17-417. The complete charge still depends on the alleged substance, amount, conduct, and applicable statutory provisions.
Marijuana Possession
As of 2026, Tennessee hasn’t legalized medical or recreational marijuana, and possession remains a criminal offense under state law. Simple possession of one-half ounce of marijuana or less is classified as a misdemeanor.
The substance and weight aren’t the only issues that may require review. The prosecution must rely on admissible evidence, and the defense can examine how officers discovered, seized, identified, and attributed the substance in the particular case.
How a Corryton Drug Case May Move Through Court
Criminal allegations involving Corryton residents proceed through the Knox County court system. Depending on the allegations and the case’s procedural posture, a case may proceed through General Sessions Court, Criminal Court, or federal court in downtown Knoxville. Court routing isn’t determined by geography alone.
Early stages may include:
Bond: The court addresses whether and under what conditions someone can be released from custody after an arrest.
Arraignment: The court addresses the formal charges and the defendant’s plea.
Evidence review: The defense evaluates the prosecution’s evidence, including relevant reports, searches, and recorded information.
Treatment programs, probation, or diversion may be available through Knox County courts in some circumstances. Diversion can allow an eligible person to resolve a charge without a conventional conviction after satisfying court-ordered conditions. Availability depends on the charge, record, governing law, and court requirements, so no alternative applies automatically.
“Mr. Fanduzz is committed to nothing but the BEST outcome for his clients.”
Nearly two years ago, I was charged with DUI and Speeding. Due to my occupation, a conviction could be detrimental to my career. I contacted Mr. Fanduzz and he was able to have my case placed on Judicial Diversion, which required me to serve only one year supervised probation (reduced from two years) and court cost. I retained my drivers license and did not have to purchase expensive car insurance.
Unfortunately, while on probation, I was charged with two counts of assault and aggravated assault. Along with these new charges, I also faced violation of my probation and the original DUI. All charges were considered Felonies at this point. There was no hesitation in hiring him to represent me again. Mr. Fanduzz not only kept me well informed, he also skillfully and agressively argued on my behalf. He arranged for my probation and judicial diversion to be reinstated and the felony assault charges to be dismissed in exchange for a plea to a misdemeanor offence.
Needless to say, I highly recommend Mr. Fanduzz because of his attention to detail and commitment to have the BEST possible outcome for his clients.
